Another transfer failure..sigh..

Fernando Torres last night told Manchester United to forget about trying to sign him. Spain striker Torres is top of United boss Sir Alex Ferguson's list of transfer targets but claims that playing at Old Trafford tomorrow night will mean "nothing" to him. Atletico Madrid star Torres has also been a target for Chelsea and Newcastle but privately believes Arsenal are the only English club which will suit his playing style. He thinks Spain will be too good for England - and that will give him a chance to clinch a move to the Premiership next summer. Torres said: "I think the top English league would be well suited for my game, and maybe that is why there has been a lot of talk. Maybe this game is a chance for me to show what I am capable of. It will be a very good test for me against England."

The Daily Star have a different slant on Torres' vague quotes, insisting that United remain in the hunt for his signature alongside Jose Mourinho's Chelsea.

According to the majority of the tabloids, Cristiano Ronaldo allegedly wants opposition fans to stop booing him - at least during Portugal's friendly with Brazil at the Emirates Stadium.

The Sun carries John O'Shea's claim that a second Treble is not beyond United's current squad, while Michael Carrick states that United are not worried about Chelsea's title challenge.

Meanwhile, Spurs could be in trouble with the FA after the alleged misuse of their giant television screens, which were used to replay the award of United's penalty at half-time during Sunday's match.
