Iran shows video of captured Britons

TEHRAN, Iran - Iranian state TV showed video Wednesday of the 15 British sailors and marines who were seized last week because trespassed in Iranian waters.

CI teared to pieces... 5 years of playing in stock market , this is first time I saw the opening bell showed CI -100 . I have no idea what it shows on 1997.

So, back to basic... To instill confidence back to fm,retailers,investors,gamblers etc...CI need to climb back as soon as posibble as the regional/world markets stabilized.

To raise CI, blue chips need to advance first. And here, we shall take the chance to get in those ca,cb,cc again. WARNING... no TM-CB (expired soon) hehe...

TM Q4 net profit soars

TM Q4 net profit soars to RM631.6m

MALAYSIA'S most valuable phone firm, Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM), soundly beat market expectations as it reported a better fourth quarter net profit due to higher overseas contribution and foreign exchange gains.Analysts had expected TM, which proposed to pay more than half of its net earnings, to make about RM500 million in the quarter to December 31 2006.

TM posted a net income of RM631.6 million in that quarter. This is a stark difference from 2005 when it made a loss of RM701.3 million because of a large legal claim it settled with Germany's Deutsche Telekom.

"The substantial rise in net profit was due to better cost management, foreign exchange gain and the absence of an arbitration award compared to the previous year," TM chief executive officer Datuk Abdul Wahid Omar said at a briefing in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
TM's fourth quarter revenue climbed 18 per cent to RM4.41 billion, helped by higher revenue from Indonesia's Excelcomindo, Sri Lanka's Dialog Telekom Ltd and its business in Bangladesh.
"For 2006, our overseas operations contributed to 25 per cent of group revenue, a significant jump from only 13 per cent in 2005," TM chairman Tan Sri Md Radzi Mansor said.
For the full year, TM's net profit jumped two-and-a-half times to RM2.07 billion from RM811.3 million a year earlier. Its revenue rose 18 per cent to RM16.40 billion, beating analysts' forecast of RM16 billion.
Wahid also said TM will continue to seek more opportunistic investments in regional markets.
The main focus for Celcom, its local mobile arm, will be to raise its revenue market share.
"Celcom will focus on customer centricity in its service offerings, expand enterprise channels and tap further into the growing mobile data segment," he said.
Asked on planned capital expenditure this year, chief financial officer Bazlan Osman said:
"Capital expenditure will be more than last year because we're expanding our businesses in Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh." Last year, TM spent RM5.42 billion on capital expenditure.
For 2006, TM is planning dividend payout of RM1.14 billion which is 55 per cent of the group's net profit.
"This is in line with the dividend payout policy of between 40 per cent and 60 per cent of profit attributable to shareholders," he said.
Basically, the gross dividend payout works out to 46 sen a share, higher than 35 sen a share in 2005.
TM also met two of its three key performance indicators. It fell short in its revenue target of RM17 billion.
However, TM achieved the 45.9 per cent operating profit margin and exceeded the 10.6 per cent target for return on capital employed.

PageRank is a numeric value that represents how important a page is on the web. Google figures that when one page links to another page, it is effectively casting a vote for the other page. The more votes that are cast for a page, the more important the page must be. Also, the importance of the page that is casting the vote determines how important the vote itself is. Google calculates a page's importance from the votes cast for it. How important each vote is is taken into account when a page's PageRank is calculated.

PageRank is Google's way of deciding a page's importance. It matters because it is one of the factors that determines a page's ranking in the search results. It isn't the only factor that Google uses to rank pages, but it is an important one.

Google Page rank is based on back links. Back links are Links pointing to your website from another website. The more back links you have the higher your PR will be.

Join forums, forums are a great way to achieve links to your website. In most forums you are allowed to have a signature and in your signature you can put a link to your website. But another important note to look on is making sure the forum is somewhat related to your website. You will still get credit if it's not, but if it's related to your website than you will be accomplishing two tasks at once.

You will be advertising for your website (bringing in targeted traffic) You will also be building your websites presence.Your websites presence is very important to your survival. The more people see, or hear about your website the more credibility you will have and this increases your chances of having these visitors come back and possibly become leads.

Submit to search engine directories. Search engine directories are a good way to get a free link to your website. They also increase your chances at being listed higher on popular search engines like Google, and overture.Most search engine directories allow you to submit to their website for free. This will allow you to increase your web presence by being listed on another search engine, and it will also be a free link.Remember the more links you have the higher your PR will be.

Using ezine ads (or newsletters). Creating an ezine will probably be the most beneficial step you can take to increasing your web presence. When you create an ezine you will be able to keep visitors coming back to your website for more by using signatures and giving special deals. Ezine's will also allow you to increase your back links. By creating an ezine you can submit your information about your ezine to an ezine directory. This directory will then link to your website(thus giving you a free link).

Creating and publishing articles. Articles are an easy source of generating new traffic. You can include your signature in your article. This will bring in more traffic from article submission directories. Your signature usually consists of 4 to 8 lines. Usually the first line would be the title of the website that you are trying to advertise. The last line would be the link to the website and the lines in between these would be a sales pitch to draw your viewers into your website.

Links from related websites. Gaining links from related websites can be one of the most frustrating tasks you can attempt. Maybe your website is based on ford mustangs.You go to Google and type in ford mustangs, than you look around for pages that are somewhat related to your website. This can be the most difficult task because a lot of webmasters ignore e-mail's from people requesting links because they don't see the importance of it at the time. Some other reasons could be that they are rarely online, or they delete spam mail and sometimes delete their important emails in the process.

Important note: When looking for link partners don't just link with websites that have a page rank of 4 or higher. Link with anyone and everyone you get a chance to. If you link to someone that has a page rank of zero, this will not hurt your page rank. It will only increase it because you are getting a link back to your website. I was speechless when i saw TM cant go through 10.80 today although has broken it early in the morning.

My optimism prevent me from disposing those TM-ca coz im very confident TM can break 10.90 at least. And the confidence level dissipates gradually during afternoon session while watching some of my friends in investmentlink.blogspot.com reap their rewards in another counters. (sigh)...

Having invest a lot in TM ca also prevent me from joining the hordes in PECD ( my wife's previous company, that time she left the company, the share price only 30 cents. ), YTLE (Mesdaq taiko, overtake Iris), Titan etcetera.

NScom ? Dispose half of it just now. No ummph lah.

Other TM sons already negative since their premium are not attractive while TM ca still supported by buyers because a reasonable premium. But things will go opposite direction if TM drop to 10.60 and TM ca will loose its ground. 10.60 ? Nightmare!

Sold my Ipower and bought TM-ca today...a lot of TM-ca at 1.38, 1.40 and 1.47(this one is overconfident).

What makes me tak boleh tidur malam coz mother TM close at 10.80 today. Given TM-ca close price at 1.38 and my average purchase price at 1.42, while exercise price at 9.21 ratio 1:1. TM - ca have another roughly 15 cents to go tomorow if the price stays....but... i smell big rally tomorrow to push up the CI somemore after couple days of correction in blue chips.

MOST probably TM will hit one time at 11.00 and my TM-ca at least will appreciate to 1.60. My target price. May the force be with TM..

If things go opposite, ho ho no angpow lah this CNY.

Common problems facing retail investors

Last year, the stock market surged by 21.8%, or 196 points, to close at 1,096.24 compared with 899.79 at the end of 2005. Logically, all investors should have made handsome returns. However, a lot of people were still complaining about not getting good returns last year.

DESPITE the recent Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) rally, why was it that the prices of most of my stocks hardly moved?

In general, if you analysed the top gainers during 2006, you would notice that these stocks can be grouped into a few categories: plantation and timber stocks, blue chips, companies involved in mergers and acquisitions, or produced good corporate results lately.

Other than the above-mentioned categories, most of the second-liner stocks hardly moved during the year.

Some even touched their all-time low levels. Thus, we were not surprised when some retailers were unable to get the returns they wanted.

Bursa Malaysia is getting more mature now

Lately, it has not been easy to make money from our stock market by just listening to market rumours or having good tips. Intelligent investors are starting to pay attention to companies’ performance.

The stock prices of companies that are unable to perform up to investors’ expectations will be hammered down. Companies with continued losses for every quarter will continue to sell at very low prices.

We may wonder why some investors bought those poor quality stocks instead of the good value companies. We believe they did have those good quality stocks. However, they sold those stocks the moment the stock prices moved up very high within a week.

This was because they had been holding those stocks for a long time but the prices hardly moved. They were worried that the stock price might go back to their previous level after the price surge. In most instances, the stock prices continued to climb far beyond their disposal levels.

Selling winners too soon and holding losers too long ?.

In behavioural finance, we call this phenomenon “the disposition effect”, which refers to the investors’ behaviour of selling the winners too soon, but holding on to the losers for too long.

Most investors will lock in their gains the moment their long-term holding of good fundamental stocks move up within a short time.

As a result, the remaining holdings are of those poor quality stocks and they are unwilling to sell because they feel the pain the moment they need to cut the losses.

Why do I always lose money in the stock market?

Based on our estimation, only one in 10 investors will be able to make money in the stock market. The other nine may be able to make some short-term gains but not in the long run.

Forget their original objective ?

One of the most common reasons is the retailers always forget their original objective. To win in the stock market, there is no short cut, only hard work and patience coupled with good understanding of the companies’ fundamentals. However, most investors like to speculate or trade stocks. They want quick and easy money.

Benjamin Graham, the father of value investing, in his book The Intelligent Investor, states that buying stocks without understanding the companies’ fundamentals is speculation.

In the stock market, there are two main activities – investing and trading. Investing means “buy and hold”, trading means “buy and sell”. However, most retailers apply “buy and forget” strategy, meaning they will force themselves to forget the stocks that give high losses.

They are unable to face those losses. As a result, they will always reclassify their trading stocks as “long-term investment”. The moment they change their original objective from trading to investing, they will likely to incur huge losses.

Retailers who were heavily involved in speculating on second board companies during 1996, even if they cut their losses during the market crash in 1998, they were still able to get higher prices compared with today’s prices.

Hence, investors need to sell their trading stocks the moment they sense that the market is going downwards even if it means that they need to incur high losses because trading means “buy and sell”.

AirAsia jet buying spree raises concerns

AIRASIA'S latest jet buying spree appeared to have raised concerns among analysts and investors that the airline has bitten off more than it can chew.

Many felt the airline could be expanding too fast and the decision to take on more debt could be a risky move.

Aviation analyst Shukor Yusof from Standard & Poor's Equity Research in Singapore said that in an industry that is cyclical in nature, AirAsia is expanding too aggressively.

He also cautioned that heavy investments during boom times could prove unsustainable in a downturn.

"AirAsia's net debt position in June 2006 was about RM400 million. This will increase with the decision to buy more aircraft.

"However, AirAsia already has a number of financial advisers to meet the challenges posed by its latest acquisitions. So, I'm sure they have a game plan to deal with the new debt burden," he added.

OSK Research manager Chris Eng told Business Times AirAsia's aggressive fleet expansion would inevitably push up its gearing.

Even without the additional 50 A320 planes, he said, the airline's net gearing is expected to soar to three times by fiscal year ending June 2009 as the new planes will significantly increase borrowings.

"AirAsia's gearing is a bit high for an airline company. By right they should maintain their gearing below 1.5 times," he added.

In managing the situation, he said AirAsia would have to fly significantly to new routes and projected Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia to be the recipients for most of these new 50 planes.

"The additional capital expenditure for these planes also leads us to believe that AirAsia will proceed with a private placement exercise within the first half this year to raise its equity and manage its gearing," he added.

Meanwhile, TA Securities analyst Rosnani Rasul, when contacted, said it is normal for a growing company like AirAsia to take on high debt.

Based on guidance provided by the airline earlier, she pointed out that AirAsia is due to see 40 per cent growth in its passenger volume this year, followed by another 35 per cent and 30 per cent growth in 2008 and 2009, respectively.

"Looking at its passenger growth forecast, you can see that the airline needed the additional capacity to support the growth.

"I don't think that they are expanding too fast. I think this is something that they have to do," she said.

Despite AirAsia's growth potential, Rosnani, however, said there are concerns about the airline's capability to finance the purchase.

"It is a huge amount. Banking on bank borrowings alone would not be good for AirAsia. They have to look into ways to raise cash, be it via equity call or even bonds.

"However, I am confident that the airline is not short of options on how to raise cash to finance the purchase. If not, I do not think Airbus would be supportive of the purchase," she added.

PROS FOR A STRONG U.S. DOLLAR

What Are The Dangers For 2007

Everyone seems to be quoting the following article about US$22b being plowed into emerging markets:

Emerging market equity funds attracted US$22.4 billion (about RM77.6 billion) in 2006, of which US$11.2 billion or half of total inflows went into China related equity funds, according to Emerging Portfolio Fund Research (EPFR). The US-based EPFR - which tracks equity and bond fund flows of 15,000 international and emerging market funds with US$7 trillion in assets - said on Jan 3 it was another record setting year for flows into emerging market equity funds. “Strong fund flows for Asia ex-Japan and China Equity Funds in the latest week (final week of 2006) suggests that the ripples caused by Thailand’s recent imposition of capital controls have rapidly faded,” it said in a report. EPFR said global equity funds recorded inflows of US$29.7 billion, a 51% increase on the tally for 2005 and the third straight year that these funds had posted a record for inflows. “It is clear that global investors continued to seek more global exposure in 2006 in comparing EPFR’s total universe of US and non-US equity funds,” it said. EPFR said total inflows into all non-US equity fund groups (including global, emerging markets, Europe, Japan, and Pacific region funds) amounted to US$116.5 billion in 2006, compared to US Equity Funds that sustained net outflows of US$15.9 billion.

Among emerging markets fund groups, it added that Asia ex-Japan funds raked in US$635.9 million in fresh money - of which flows into China Equity Funds accounted for more than half. BRIC Equity Funds, which invest in Brazil, Russia, India and China, ended the year with net inflows of US$4.3 billion. On Japan, it said despite the benchmark Nikkei 225 was at a seven-month high, it was not enough to spare Japan Equity Funds their eighth straight week of net outflows, thereby keeping this fund group on course to post net outflows for the first time since 2002. “The redemptions have come in spite of solid performance by Japanese equities which has added US$4.95 billion to the value of these funds’ collective portfolios since Nov 30,” it said. EPFR said Japan’s export story remains strong, in part due to its surprisingly weak currency. But its domestic story remains uncertain despite an economic recovery that is now in its fifth year. “With tighter fiscal and monetary policy on the horizon, investors question resilience of Japanese consumers and worry about a fresh bout of deflation,” it added.

1) Relative - The size of the funds into Asia ex-Japan went mostly into China, the rest got crumbs, nothing to shout about.

2) The Ringgit - This is crucial because a large motivating factor for continuing foreign purchases of equities into Malaysia lies on the outlook of the ringgit. Generally, the outlook is still good and I do not forsee any spectacular problems till the ringgit reaches 3.2 or thereabouts. The other good thing is the recent turmoil initiated by Thailand's central bank - this would serve as an excellent warning to Zeti and her team on HOW NOT TO SCARE the markets. Hence a sudden policy or capital movement change is unlikely, or largely will be watered down. Look for Zeti's opinions in the papers to monitor Bank Negara's shifts in policy thinking.

3) Interest Rates - Inflation will be a factor in 2007 as wages and prices move higher (higher tolls are but an indicator). As part of the policy to subsidise the economy less (which I strongly support), higher wages (esp in the public sector) and prices for goods and services are inevitable. The buffer is still there though. The strong ringgit is a lever we will rely on to a certain extent to manage the buffer. Bank Negara cannot really raise rates much further because that will send the ringgit higher too fast. Bank Negara's stance is quite obvious, it will allow the ringgit to appreciate in step with China's yuan. That is smart because in the end that is the main competitor in production of goods and services which we should benchmark upon. Hence on the interest rates front, it will be OK for the equity markets.

4) Timing - As usual, most equity rallies come in spurts, and the first and last quarters will still be the best period to invest or punt. Go away in May, come back in October, you will miss many anxious periods.

5) What can unbuckle the bullish undertone??? - Problems in China, politics, equity or property corrections. I am still a believer that the bullishness over Chinese banks is a tad overdone. In all likelihood, if there is a severe correction, it will affect other Asian markets more. Keep an eye there, and it also puts HK in the same boat as a large part of the stupendous rally in the Hang Seng last year was due to the large market cap and listings of China-related companies there. We can and should assume both markets as one.

AirAsia Bhd, which expects to release its best ever quarterly results for the three months to Dec 31, 2006, is reaping the benefits of the strengthening ringgit and lower world oil prices, its chief executive officer Datuk Tony Fernandes said.

He said the two primary factors had resulted in tremendous cost savings as the low cost carrier was mainly a "US dollar-based business."

“There are two major things going in favour of AirAsia: one is oil, the other is the ringgit, which has had a phenomenal appreciation," he told reporters after AirAsia’s AGM in Sepang on Dec 28.

Fernandes said many industry analysts had failed to pick up on the fact that the ringgit had appreciated 6% to 7%.

"About 70% of our cost is in US dollars and 6% to 7% makes a huge impact to our bottom line.

"We also never hedged our currencies because we felt the ringgit would strengthen and we are now benefiting from a stronger ringgit,” he said.

"We pay for our oil and planes in US dollars,” he said, adding that AirAsia had hedged almost 100% of its fuel requirements for the rest of the financial year ending June 30, 2007.

Nonetheless, he did not expect fuel to be a problem. “We believe fuel will oscillate between US$55 and US$65 and, no matter what OPEC is doing, oil is going down," he added.

On its current performance, Fernandes said AirAsia was "excited" about its performance in terms of passenger numbers for the first half of the current financial year.

"This will translate to the bottom line. It is our best ever quarter and I want to stress that this is the first quarter that AirAsia has operated really on a level playing field.

“The performance will be a mark of what investors should expect going forward. It’s the first true reflection of the company. Our load factors have never been so high and it bodes well for the future,” he said.

To a question on whether AirAsia would face falling revenue per passenger, Fernandes said its business model depended more on passenger traffic rather than yield, which was the focus of the premium airlines.

He said AirAsia's strategy for next year would be to focus on consolidation rather than expansion, particularly on improving its services, driving down costs and increasing flight frequencies.

“Now it’s to build frequency and focus on airport costs,” he said in reference to AirAsia's request to Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd to lower airport charges for the low cost carrier vis-a-vis the premium carriers.

“We don’t think the security charge should be the same for different terminals. There’s a lot more X-ray machines in the main terminal than there are in the low cost terminal.

“We encourage differentiated pricing. You don’t pay Mandarin Oriental rates for a three-star hotel,” he added.

On the government's plan to allow other low cost carriers to fly to the country, Fernandes welcomed competition. “We don’t believe in protection. We welcome more and more low cost carriers to come.”

He believed that KL International Airport could play an important role in making Malaysia a regional low cost carrier hub.

“On the premium side, Changi has won and Bangkok is strong but in low cost travel, KLIA is the biggest by far.

"We have the potential to carry 40 million passengers (per year) at the low cost carrier terminal), which is 10 times to 20 times bigger than the Budget Terminal in Singapore," he said.

Meanwhile, Bloomberg reported that AirAsia Bhd said flight bookings through the Internet slowed on Wednesday after earthquakes off Taiwan damaged undersea cables and disrupted Internet services in Asia.

AirAsia isn't expecting any "major impact'' on sales, the carrier, said in a statement. The carrier increased the number of call centers to help facilitate bookings, Fernandes said.

"While our Internet booking have gone down, our call centres are up,'' Fernandes told Bloomberg in a telephone interview yesterday. "Surprisingly, it has no impact on the total bookings.''

About 65% of bookings are normally made through the Internet, the carrier said.

Malaysian Airline System Bhd and SilkAir, the regional unit of Singapore Airlines Ltd, also faced similar disruptions to their online services, the companies said in separate e-mail statements.

"We are experiencing a temporary slowdown and intermittent disruptions to online services on our Web site,'' SilkAir said.

"We are working with our technical vendors to mitigate impact, for example, minimising site congestion by boosting our connection bandwidth.''

Yesterday bursa msia closed at 1117.09, a rise of 20.85 points which was the highest closed since almost 10 years.

Bursa msia recorded 4 straight days gaines totalling 32 points. really bullish huh.

I am not a technical trader who can predict after 4 days of 32 points gains klse will have correction or not.

But, i just play it safe and thought that after so much gains maybe klse need to ease back before charging again for this cny rally (everybody wish of this..hehe).

I sold all my positions with ok lah net gains. And bought bursa-ca which is the only position rite now. Bursa ca cut loss point for me 1.56.

Will keep alert for today , maybe i go for iris/patimas again for contra and search for 1 or 2 counter to hold.

Danger signs

There are some danger signs that traders need to remember when executing active tradings during bullish period as we are experiencing right now..

KLCI now is in the fifth month of its rally. Based on historical performances, major reversals take place after five to six months of upward closes rallies. Therefore, we may expect a reversal to happen this month January 07. If it does not reverse, it can turn into a 10 month rally.

So a clear sign of reversal is needed to confirm this, and since there is still no such sign, we have to wait for the market to develop it.

Then, from the volume indicator. When the daily volumes hit a certain peak or resistance, the market may exhaust and is normally followed by a correction. So far, when the volume peak to 2 million + per day, the correction follows.

Other sign that we need to aware is when there is large interest from the public about the stock market. You must ready to back off when u heard fisherman, Watson's staff, security guard, mat rempit already start talking about their gains from stocks. :)

I am waiting volatility that happens in iris to occurs in patimas this coming weeks. Recent announcement as below should contribute some sparks on patimas price. Patimas share price has bottomed at RM 0.135 and there is maybe upside potential after this recent announcement.

PATIMAS COMPUTERS BERHAD ("PATIMAS" OR THE COMPANY) COLLABORATION AGREEMENT BETWEEN PATIMAS AND IRIS CORPORATION BERHAD

Further to the Company’s announcement on 30 November 2006 in relation to the Memorandum of Understanding entered between Patimas and Iris Corporation Berhad

(“ICB”), the Board of Directors of Patimas wishes to announce that both parties have on 29 December 2006 entered into a Collaboration Agreement for the purpose

of collaborating on an exclusive basis with each other in a submission of  a tender for a NIMC Central Data Centre in Nigeria (“Project”) and formalizing

and regulating the respective roles and responsibilities in relation to the Project subject to the terms and conditions stipulated in the Collaboration

Although this announcement shows value of none coz the story only tells that 2 sibling joined together to bid a tender in one place far far away but it looks like an excuse to 'goreng' from the speculators' view.

My target for patimas is 23 cent. However, patimas really depends on iris price performance and iris NEVER moves against market sentiment. Among speculative stocks, Iris will the first to rise on good market sentiment and be the first to do free fall vice versa.

2007 is just around the corner as we prepare to leave 2006 ,that the year for me is the most challenging year since i start a family.

Since early 2006 i have encountered so much obstacles, have to do split second decision making quite number of times, need to solve new problems while the current one still hanging in front of my face and etc...

Also not to forget the best lesson of all in my hobby of stock trading when i was trapped in stock market sell off during may-june 2006... only god knows what happened to me that time.. damned!

Having experienced ups and downs in business, shaking hands and having lunch with new competitor bla bla bla ...huh.., .so much complaint kekeke...

2007, resolution? target ? get it simple bro... no need nice package of words just to project to other people how smart u are in planning things ..hehe.. for me honestly i want seek more money, gain more money and of course loose LESS money in field that i love most stock trading.

To achieve that, need to learn more from all those old timer (otai?), mix with them, give n take RELIABLE info/tips (hehe).

This bull run is the greatest opportunity to gain more. The bull run doesn't come easy, allthough i can say its not a pure bullrun as most of us saw the 2nd boarder n mesdaq still lagging n majority of the 1st board not appreciate enough but hey thats an opportunity to jump in coz the price still as reasonable level. I believe there is more to come in 2007.

Just everyday i told myself, whatever comes up will go down...trade with cautious and dont ever stuck again in another forthcoming sell off !

If money permits, use a cable with at least 2 or 3 extra core so that if there is going to be any short circuits in the future (happens often in cases of wires laid underground), you still have some spare wires.

Hassle the vendor for an extra remote control. If you are going to buy another one, it will be quite pricey.

Question - Can you translate the cost of electrity per month according to the electrical appliances. In simple language like RMXX amount if you use a 1.5HP aircond for XX hours.

Calculating the energy cost of an item is easy once you know the following two bits of information:

.The total number of watts it takes to run the item
·The cost per kilowatt hour (Kwh) your power company charges you.

Every electrical appliance or object that takes electricity to operate will be marked, on the item itself, on its packaging, or in its instruction booklet/information sheet, with either the watts it uses or with amps and volts.

To Find Watts:
·Look for the watts on the item, package, or information sheet/booklet that came with it.
·If there is no watts figure, but there is amps and volts (often appearing as VAC), simply multiply the amps by the volts to get the number of watts.

Before anything else, bear in mind that all calculations are done in Kilowatt Hours (Kwh)hence, the term Kilowatt Hour Meter that we use to call the TNB meters we have on our porch.

Taking example of a 1.5 hp air-con, let’s find out the watts for that. From my knowledge, 1 hp = 746 watts. Therefore, 1.5 hp is equivalent to about 1119 watts. If the unit is being used say, 8 hours per day, then, she will be consuming 8952 watts. Divide this number by 1000 to get the Kilowatt value. Using this information, multiply it with the current rates that TNB is charging, i/e. 0.218 sen for the first 200 Kwh., and 0.258 sen for anything above that (for private homes). Muitiply 8.962 with 0.218 and you get about 1.95 or about 2 riggit per day. If used for 30 days a month, she will have to pay about 60 ringgit in electrical charges for the air con alone. Of course, this will depend on the condition of the unit. If it is in tip top condition, then you might save a little bit. In simpler terms, the calculations will look something like this.

1.5 hp = 1119 watts
1119 watts x 8 hours/day = 8952 watts
8952 divided by 1000 = 8.952 Kwh
8.952 x 0.218 = Rm. 1.95/day
Rm.1.95/day x 30 = Rm.58.50/month

All electrical items in your house are calculated the same way.

People always think that big paycheck can solve financial problem. For me, it’s partly true. The most important part before thinking and dreaming a big paycheck is to plan your expenditure.

Firstly, let us look into Necessity expenditure. It is an expense that you MUST pay for it. If you don’t do it, you can lose yourself and your family. For example house mortgage payment, foods, diapers for your baby, water and electricity (utilities bill - but not ASTRO please!), charity & donation, your children school’s fees, insurance and others.

Next, It’s Good to Have expenditure. For most of people, a handphone’s bill. Books & Magazine. Annual Family vacation. Your first car that is used to go to office and for your family arrangement. Broadband connection for your home and others.

The the last and the most important category to be discussed, You Don’t Die if You don’t Buy it! It is expenses for your paid television channel - ASTRO, your second or third car, teh-tarik and roti canai at Mamak Bistro with you friends every day after work, new dresses and accessories just to follow the latest fashion on earth (which was actually also a new fashion in 1970s!) and all things that you buy and dream to have it for just for fun. And you will still alive healthily on earth even if you fail to have it.

However, different people have different needs. For me, handphone bills and broadband connection are necessity because I can’t make money without both of it. I’ve once “lost” around $5,000 - $10,000 just because I don’t pay my handphone bills earlier. Sigh. A very hard lesson for me though.

For now, just think about it seriously. Categorize your expenditure into 3 parts. Next post, you will learn how by doing these simple steps, you can reduce your debt headache, credit card burden and end-of-month financial cries, just by doing this.

HOW TO DETECT A 2-WAY MIRROR:

When we visit toilets, bathrooms, hotel rooms, changing rooms, etc. How many of you know for sure that the seemingly ordinary mirror hanging on the wall is a real mirror, or actually a 2-way mirror ( i.e., they can see you, but you can’t see them).

There have been many cases of people installing 2-way mirrors in female changing rooms. It is very difficult to positively identify the surface by just looking at it.

So, how do we determine with any amount of certainty what type of mirror we are looking at? Just conduct this simple test:

Place the tip of your fingernail against the reflective surface and if there is a GAP between your fingernail and the image of the nail, then it is a GENUINE mirror.

However, if your fingernail DIRECTLY TOUCHES the image of your nail, then BEWARE, FOR IT IS A 2-WAY MIRROR!

So remember , every time you see a mirror, do the “fingernail test.” It doesn’t cost you anything. It is simple to do, and it might save you from getting “visually raped” !

This is a really good thing to do. The reason there is a gap on a real mirror, is because the silver is on the back of the mirror UNDER the glass. As a two-way mirror, the silver is on the surface. Keep it in mind!
